This afternoon, Debbie and I headed back to a private pond we have access to, we call "The Airfield". The bite was on pretty good yesterday evening, so we thought we'd give it another try. Debbie was using her micro rig set up just like the day before: rigged with a #0 gold Beetle Spin, 1/32oz white crappie jig head
w/red eye, and fitted with a Strike King Smokey Shad shadpole grub. This has been a winning combination in these ponds, and was again today.
I was playing more with soft plastics, experimenting with color and such, and having fun with that. There was no topwater action, but it was a good time to learn more about different ways to work the 4" Stanley Ribbit frog on topwater. The action is AWESOME, I can't wait for topwater bite to come on! I also experimented more with the Zoom "4 Super Flukes... the shad color got no attention at all, but the watermelon color worked pretty good. The fluke, when rigged weightless, is a bass assassin! I picked up a few of decent size. but nothing nearly like Debbie. She was surely on her game today.... she caught 19 large mouth bass and 2 FAT bluegill in about 2 hours! The females are showing belly a little, but it still looks the spawn may be another 3-4 weeks out in this pond, as the water is still pretty cold.
Did I mention that Debbie was on her game today? Check these photos...
