The Cow Pasture, 12/28/21

Debbie and I Went out to the private spot we call the "Cow Pasture" this afternoon, to do a little bank fishing. It was the first time in a long while, this has been a rough year with family and health issues, and we haven't fished a lot. The temps were unseasonably warm at about 71 deg F, partly cloudy, and a breeze out of the southwest. We were using light tackle...micro rods and spin cast reels with 4lb mono. The bait was #1 beetle spin rigged with 1/32 oz crappie jig and creme "Smoky Shad" grubs. We had a blast, catching a bunch of small LM bass, blue gill, and black crappie. Here's a few pics of the evening...

Cow Pasture, 9/14/20

Debbie and I ran out to the private spot we call the "Cow Pasture" just before dark (and prior to some incoming rain). Debbie was fishing with a micro setup w/beetle spin and smokey shad grub, I was throwing a topwater frog. Here's a couple of pics from this little trip...

Cow Pasture, 4/23/2020

Debbie and I caught a small batch of these guys, this eve at a private farm pond we call "the Cow Pasture". We could see them hitting the surface all around, and they wouldn't touch anything we had. Too much cover to fly fish. We had some of these little suspending dive baits. I chopped most of the bill's off, eliminated the split ring on the nose, and tied them on to 2 micro rods with 4lb flouro. They would sit right under the surface, and only wobble a little and not dive on retrieve. Then, we'd cast, wait 30 secs, slow roll a foot or so, stop and repeat. It worked and we left some of them with sore lips :-) We also caught a Golden Shiner!

Pond Hopping in the Rain, 9/5/19

Today, Debbie and I decided to a little pond hopping / bank fishing in the rain. We started off at the Airfield, then went to Murdock's, and ended up at the Cow Pasture. We got wet and enjoyed the cooler temps, and caught a few fish. here's a few pics from the morning...

Cow Pasture, 8/25/19

Today was another cool and overcast day, with temps in the mid-70's. Unusually cool for August, but very welcomed :-) After dinner, Debbie and I decided to do a little fishing, so we first stopped in on Moccasin Creek. The creek was very high, and very muddy...probably from all the recent rain. We had a few hits, but didn't land anything. As it neared dark, we loaded up to head home. On the way back, we stopped in at the Cow Pasture pond for a few minutes. This pond is at least 18" lower than usual from irrigation of the surrounding crops. We fished about 30 minutes, and Debbie landed this large mouth bass on a 5" YumDinger...

Cow Pasture, 5/15/19

Debbie and I headed over to the Airfield after dinner. We caught a couple there, and decided to move to the Cow Pasture, and fish until dark. Debbie hit a chunk as soon as we got to thepasture, 2nd cast, wham!! 2lb 1oz. She was fishing with 5" Yum Dinger worms, watermelon and pearl, rigged weedless and weightless. I was using the same, and also throwing top water. Here's a few pics...

Cow Pasture, 4/11/19

Debbie and I rode over to the private spot we call the Cow Pasture this evening, a little before dark. The results were similar to what we found previously at the Hidden pond...bass were no where to be found, and no one seems to be interested in sub-surface stuff at all. There was lots of top water activity from what looked like piles of small bluegill. I pulled out the fly rod and tried a small top water floating fly on them. Sure enough, some of the bigger bluegill were ready to go! Here's a few pics...

Cow Pasture, 1-6-19

Finally, after leaving Amos, we decided to move on to another private spot we call the Cow Pasture... Well, let me tell you, there is such a thing as Cow Poo Quicksand! Lots of rain recently, coupled with lots of Cow Manure, and cows to mix it all up, leads to Cow Poo Quicksand. All looked well, but the truck almost fell to it's chassis in that stuff!! Wow, what a mess!! Debbie decided she didn't feel good rocking the truck back and forth in that, so she opted to push while I drove....boy, did she ever take one for the team!! Cow Poo from the top of her head to the bottom of her feet, but we got out! Here's some pics :-) ...

Cow Pasture, 8-26-18

After fishing at Barrett's Farm Ponds this morning, we went home and put the boat up. Later in the day, Debbie said "let's run over to the Cow Pasture before dark", so off we went. More fish were caught, and more fun was had! Here's a few pics...
