Airfield, 7/24/21

Debbie and I ran over to the local private spot we call "The Airfield" for a while, today. We arrived about 2 hours before dark, and it was "on". Debbie immediately started catching LMB on her favorite setup...6'6" rod, Bullet reel with 12lb mono, 3-0 wide space hook, and 6" watermelon & pearl Yum Dinger rigged weedless and weightless. I tried rattle traps, but there was too much moss to pull through. Top water got very little attention. If you can't beat'm, join'm...so I rigged a worm and hopped in with her. Lots of fun!! She caught 17 bass in 2 hours, right up to dark. I switched to the fly rod and picked up a bunch of bluegill. Here's a few that I got pics of...

Airfield, 4/10/21

We headed back to the Airfield today, to get a little fishing in before dark. Wow, this little pond was HOPPING! We had a great time, and fished until dark. Bait of choice was 6" stick baits for the bass, and beetlespin & fly rod w/popping bug for the bluegill. Here's some of what we caught...

The Airfield, 9/24/20

Debbie and I ran out to the private spot we call "the Airfield" just before dark, and fished a bit in the drizzle as it moved in. I was playing with a bunch of top water stuff and a crayfish, but they weren't having it. Debbie was fishing with 5" yum dingers (watermelon & pearl), rigged weightless & weedless. She was getting on it!

Airfield, 4-14-20

Debbie and I slipped out for a little while last night, just before dark. We popped over to the private spot we call the "Airfield", and did a bit of bank fishing. My camera makes it look much lighter than it was, I guess it's more sensitive than my eyes to low light. Anyway, she caught the first bass just before the sun set, another I didn't get a pic of, and the rest we caught after dark. The temps were in the low 70's, light breeze, almost no insects. A low pressure cold front was coming in from the west (it's like 50 deg outside and rain this morning!). It was a great night to be playing at the pond. Everything was caught on 5" YumDingers (watermelon and pearl), 2O EWG hooks, rigged weightless and weedless, 12lb mono, 6' graphite rods and Zebco Bullet reels. Here's a few pics...

Airfield, 2-18-20

The third stop on our "Fishin Fix Tour" was a private spot we call "the Airfield". Debbie was casting a 5" YumDinger on a 2O hook, rigged weedless, on one of her Bullet rigs with 12lb mono. I was throwing a rattle trap on braid, on one of my Bullet rigs. Here's a few pics...

Airfield, 1-24-20

I hadn't been fishing in a while. Some family illness and personal business had kept us off the water recently. I stopped by the private spot we call "the Airfield" for a moment, cast a rattle trap, and pulled this guy in for a visit :-) It was cold and windy, but worth the stop!

Pond Hopping in the Rain, 9/5/19

Today, Debbie and I decided to a little pond hopping / bank fishing in the rain. We started off at the Airfield, then went to Murdock's, and ended up at the Cow Pasture. We got wet and enjoyed the cooler temps, and caught a few fish. here's a few pics from the morning...

Airfield, 8/24/19

Today was overcast and much cooler than recent days... a high of about 75 degrees, overcast, and light rain. Much better than the recent weeks of 90's with 80+% humidity and bright sunshine! We've been busy, unmotivated, and I've been under the weather a bit to boot. We ran over to the Airfield a while this afternoon in a while. The pond is still overrun with hydrilla from the pond being pulled so low for irrigation usage. We managed to catch a few among the spunk, and still had a good time. It was great to get back out fishing again! I was fishing top water with a Ribit Frog, Debbie was fishing sub-surface with 5"worms rigged weightless and weedless. Here's a few pics...

Airfield, 7/18/19

Debbie and I headed out to the Airfield today, between afternoon thunderstorms. We found the Airfield pond in sad shape...the owner needed to irrigate out of it this year due to a long dry spell that was hard on his crops. The pond is pulled down quite a bit, lots of the pond is under 3' right now. As a result, the hydrilla BLEW UP and has choked over 50% of the pond since we were last there on 7/6/19...only 12 days ago. I suspect the dissolved oxygen is low, because most everyone was slow, and not interested in biting at all. We had to paddle most of the pond, as the trolling motor would constantly get hung up in HUGE piles of hydrilla.

Despite all that, we managed to pull off a few catches. Debbie was using a 5" soft plastic worm, I was finesse fishing with a small 3" stick bait. Even had one bluegill to hit my 3" worm! We got several on the hook that would get all wrapped up in the Hydrilla and get off.
