Bakers Creek, 1/26/19

After fishing in Norris Creek a little bit, we rode around the corner to another little 15' wide creek near our house, named Baker's Creek. The bridge is out, and the state is in the process of building a new one. They usually dig out a nice deep basin around the bridge when rebuilding, and the fish love it. We cast a few times and Debbie caught a nice little Large Mouth Bass. You never know what's in these little creeks, but there almost always something to catch on light gear. Here's a pic of the bass Debbie picked up on a beetle spin...

Norris Creek, 1/26/19

Debbie and I have been shut in for a while with this bug (mine turned into Pneumonia and put my old butt down hard), and we felt like we needed to get out and wet some line. It's funny how fishing a little can make you feel so much better :-) We didn't feel like going far or doing much, so we rode over to a little 15' wide creek near our house, Norris Creek.  We cast a few times and caught a few little Black Crappie. Here's a couple of pics...

This little guy has all the markings of a Black Crappie, but the color looks like he had hybridized with some other fish in the creek...

Leaderboard on Fishbrain...

I must say, I was somewhat flabbergasted to stumble across this... I was playing around on Fishbrain while down with Pneumonia and unable to get out and go fishing. They have a leader board area on the app, so I was looking at the leaderboard for various species in my area. When I selected Black Crappie, I found we were at #1 in about 500 anglers who had uploaded catches in our area. Not much to brag about, but kinda fund to see, just the same. I'll post updated pics of that here from time to time.

Beaver Dam @ Weaver Trail

Debbie and I put in on Beaver Dam today, off Old Weaver Trail. It was nice and calm when we got there...but very muddy. Around 3pm or so, the wind picked up and it was really rockin'. Not much biting, though Debbie caught a fatty Black Crappie. We decided to head back to the launch, about 1-1/2 mile away, and it took us about 30 minutes against the wind and water pushing back. Water was banging in over the front of the boat, but nothing serious. Here's a few pics...

231, 1-6-19

Debbie and I decided to go fishing at a few different spots today, after church. First, we headed up to Little River at the hwy 231 bridge. We caught a few Black Crappie and some bluegill at that location. The river was up quite a lot from the last time we went. Here's a few pics from that stop...

Cow Pasture, 1-6-19

Finally, after leaving Amos, we decided to move on to another private spot we call the Cow Pasture... Well, let me tell you, there is such a thing as Cow Poo Quicksand! Lots of rain recently, coupled with lots of Cow Manure, and cows to mix it all up, leads to Cow Poo Quicksand. All looked well, but the truck almost fell to it's chassis in that stuff!! Wow, what a mess!! Debbie decided she didn't feel good rocking the truck back and forth in that, so she opted to push while I drove....boy, did she ever take one for the team!! Cow Poo from the top of her head to the bottom of her feet, but we got out! Here's some pics :-) ...

Amos, 1-6-19

After a while at the Hidden Pond, we headed north and stopped in at another private spot we call Amos. We had not been there since a fish kill in mid-summer killed off a lot of large bass. We had heard there was nothing left, but after about 2 minutes, we found out otherwise...we caught some nice Black Crappie, a few Bluegill, and some small bass. Great news from that beautiful spot, for sure! Here's a few pics from that stop:

Hidden Pond, 1-6-19

After fishing at 231 a while, we headed down to a private pond we have access to, we call the Hidden Pond. The bite was decent there as well, and we picked up a few Black Crappie and a couple of Bluegill. Here's a few pics from there...

Private spot, Frankie

Frankie is a private spot we fish, once in a while, up in Franklin county. We haven't found much in there yet, a few bluegill we about it...but we'll keep trying to see if someone else is hiding in there. Always a challenge!

Private spot, Fish Foods

***UPDATE 12/29/21*** It saddens me to report that Fish Foods is now gone. Developers moved in, blew the dam, drained the pond, cut all the trees, and are now building houses, there. More houses. Like we need more, everywhere. Progress??

This is a private spot we go to, every now and again. It's crazy shallow, the entire place is about 4ft deep, but it never seems to go low. Must be fed from a spring or some such. We put the Jon Boat in there and I was expecting to find a deep spot somewhere, but never did. There's a few big bass that rule the roost in there, bluegill, crappie, and catfish. Here's a few pics...

Private spot, Green Hole

Green Hole is the name we gave to a private farm pond we're fortunate enough to have access to. We typically catch Warmouth, Catfish (yellow bullheads), and some Bluegill in that pond. The pond is always garden pea green in color :-)

Private spot, the Airfield

This is a private spot we are fortunate enough to have access to, we call it the airfield. I always seem to have best luck there on rainy days, and just before sunset. It's an old irrigation pond, out in the open, no cover, and no structure. Late evening, shade is cast over from the nearby wood line and they like it!

Private spot, Amos

This is a few pics of a private spot we are fortunate enough to have access to, we call it Amos (for the man who originally built this back in the 1960'). It's a beautiful fishing spot, and we've had many good times there. It had a fish kill in there this past summer, but it seems the larger bass were the main fish to have died. This sometimes happens in ponds when the bottom gets layered heavily with leaves and such, the water gets low, no rainfall, and oxygen levels drop. It seems to be recovering nicely now. Here's a few pics...

Private spot, Cow pasture

This is a private spot we're fortunate enough to have access to, we call it the Cow Pasture. Why? It's a cow pasture, hahahahaha... No bulls, only cows, and they've become so accustomed to us that they behave like big dogs. I hand feed them treats when we arrive, and they're very gentile creatures. The pond is awesome! Debbie and I have caught lots of fish there, My youngest son, Brandon, has caught large mouth bass around 6 pounds in there.
